The problem of modeling and approximating a waveform by a linear combination of basis functions containing a variable parameter is considered. It is shown that the Kalman equation error concept of linear system identification theory can, in a modified form, be applied to a large class of modeling problems, provided the chosen basis function is a solution of a linear functional equation in Hilbert space. This class includes rational and Tauberian modeling problems, known to be of relevance for electromagnetic transient response and wide bandwidth radar return signature identification respectively. 1

In searching for various representations of the electromagnetic fields, some recent interest has been placed on the use of path integrals. These in some sense propagate fields from previous times to sometime of interest by all possible spatial paths appropriate to the time difference to the present. This paper reviews some standard formulations and compares them to the pathintegral formulation to give an explicit interpretation for electromagnetics.

This paper deals with the processing method of electromagnetic (EM) nearfield (NF) radiated by microwave circuits with transient pulse signals. Two different NF processing methods are proposed by applying the timefrequency approach. First, a computation method of NF/NF transform is presented. This enables to calculate the EM NF maps at different distances from the radiating circuit. The feasibility of NF/NF in both frequency and timedomain is verified with experimental results. Then, NF processing based on NF emission model implemented in UWB frequency band is also examined in the second part of the paper. For that, the number of EM NF maps representing the large band model is reduced in order to simplify the model based on a set of dipolearray. The timedomain model is implemented by considering the convolution of the transient excitation signals and the UWB dipolearray model. This timefrequency model was validated with a planar microstrip device excited by microwave signal modulating 1.25GHzcarrier and 0.5GHzbandwidth. The methods explored in this paper are particularly useful for the investigation of timedomain emissions for EMC applications by considering transient

EMP simulation has been developing steadily for almosr two decades. In the case of large EMP simulators intended far illumination of complete systems with correct spatial dependence, and their scmetimes threatlike ” characteristics including correct frequency spectrum, the state of the art is rather mature. Various possibilities have been explored consistent with what Maxwell’s equations allow one to do, leading to a somewhat logical list of simulator types. Some new thrusts in EMP simulation are pointed toward small EMP simulators which in some cases could be thought of as partial Eh!P simulators in that they.illuminate a part of the system or synthesize part of the relevant sources for an EMP test.
