The rapid growth of the Internet as an environment for information exchange and the lack of enforceable standards regarding the information it contains has lead to numerous information qual ity problems. A major issue is the inability of Search Engine technology to wade through the vast expanse of questionable content and return "quality " results to a user's query. This paper attempts to address some of the issues involved in determining what quality is, as it pertains to information retrieval on the Internet. The IQIP model is presented as an approach to managing the choice and implementation of quality related algorithms of an Internet crawling Search Engine.

Abstract: Applications of multivariate statistical techniques, including graphical models, are seldom found in e-commerce studies. However, as this paper demonstrates, we find that probabilistic graphical models are useful in this area, both because of their ability to handle large numbers of potentially interrelated variables, and because of their ability to communicate statistical relationships clearly to both the researcher and the ultimate business audience. We show an application of this methodology to intranets, internal corporate information systems employing Internet technology. In particular, we study both the interrelationships among intranet benefits and the interrelationships among intranet applications. This approach confirms some hypothesized relationships, and uncovers heretofore-unanticipated relationships among intranet variables, providing guidance for business professionals seeking to develop effective intranet systems. The techniques described here also have potential applicability in other e-commerce arenas, including business-to-consumer and business-to-business applications. Key words: Contingency tables, graphic models, log-linear models. 1.

The study statistically tests the proposition of the ISO/IEC 9126 standard that higher external quality (quality when software is executed) implies higher ‘quality in use’. For this purpose, the study based on 75 user survey data shows that individual external quality subcharacteristics are positively associated with user satisfaction as defined in ‘quality in use’. This study also investigates the external quality subcharacteristics that strongly influence user satisfaction. Our results provide guidance for the revision of the Standard as well as supporting management decisions (i.e., resource allocation) aimed at improving software product quality.

Improving the qualities of software systems is an important issue in software engineering. Software engineers need to know the information about software quality as early as possible in software development. Measuring the program complexity of software systems is the most straightforward approach to analyze software quality. In this paper, we propose five Stack-based Markov (SBM) models to measure program complexity from different viewpoints. Relationships between each proposed SBM model and software quality are investigated. Empirical study reveals that these SBM models have positive impact on software quality factors. These findings could help software development organizations to predict and control their software quality in the early stage of software development.

Abstract—The vast amount of information on the World Wide Web is created and published by many different types of providers. Unlike books and journals, most of this information is not subject to editing or peer review by experts. This lack of quality control and the explosion of web sites make the task of finding quality information on the web especially critical. Meanwhile new facilities for producing web pages such as Blogs make this issue more significant because Blogs have simple content management tools enabling nonexperts to build easily updatable web diaries or online journals. On the other hand despite a decade of active research in information quality (IQ) there is no framework for measuring information quality on the Blogs yet. This paper presents a novel experimental framework for ranking quality of information on the Weblog. The results of data analysis revealed seven IQ dimensions for the Weblog. For each dimension, variables and related coefficients were calculated so that presented framework is able to assess IQ of Weblogs automatically.

Intranets represent an important organisational resource for knowledge sharing. However, as yet, there has been little research into the quality of intranets and the impact of quality on intranet user acceptance. In the study reported in this paper, an intranet quality assessment tool comprising the dimensions usability, design, and information quality, is combined with perceived usefulness and social influence from the technology acceptance literature to create an intranet acceptance model. The model is applied to the sales and marketing division of an international manufacturing company. Data is collected via a Web survey (n=131, response rate = 65.5%) and tested using the partial least squares approach to structural equation modelling. The results show that intranet quality is a significant factor in determining behavioural intention to use, although it is less important than perceived usefulness and social influence. Comments collected from respondents are used to illustrate the findings and provide an insight into user behaviour. The discussion considers the implications, future research (e.g., the role of social influence in intranet usage) and limitations. The paper rounds off with a short summary. 1 INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND TO THE RESEARCH While the Internet allows organizations to reach new markets and new consumers the corporate

Information quality (IQ) has become a critical concern in today’s organisations. Although recent studies of information systems indicate an increasing importance of IQ, foremost research is still limited. Indeed, little is known about the impact of various design decisions on IQ. Recent research shows that security measures are increasingly important for any information system; however security measures are often introduced without considering the effect on IQ. At the same time, literature provides us with indications that trade-offs between various IQ dimensions exist. In this article we aim to investigate how security measures impact on different IQ dimensions. We carried out an experiment, which indicates that security measures have a significant effect on timeliness, whereas other dimensions are not particularly influenced. This observation led us to the proposal of costbenefit considerations, an important aspect for IQ management. The study is valuable for both research and practitioners. Further research studies can build on our observations and extend the research. Practitioners are provided with arguments for considering IQ trade-offs in relation to security measures.
