This paper is about reasoning with presuppositions in natural language. Presupposition accommodation, as predicted by the linguistic theory of presuppositions as anaphoric expressions, is reconstructed logically as abductive inference in a framework that supports both anaphoric links and a context-dependent notion of propositionhood. Abductive inference arises as a side-effect of the use of the formalism and of characteristics of the communication situation. The proposal is illustrated by some examples and compared to related approaches. In this paper we present a three-dimensional architecture for the interpretation of a fragment of natural language which combines insights from presupposition theory, dynamic interpretation and the theory of generalized quantifiers. The semantics is shown to be a proper extension of a classical one, and to enable a flexible treatment of presupposition resolution along the lines of, in particular, Geurts, Kamp, and van der Sandt. 1

this paper I will outline van der Sandt's model, show some of the ways in which it is superior to earlier accounts of presupposition, and then catalogue a number of failings of the model. This paper proposes a novel solution to the problem of determining the domain of an adverbial quantifier. We observe that adverbial and nominal quantification differ with respect to their ability to incorporate presuppositions into their domain restrictions, and we use that observation to motivate an account of qadverbs as quantifiers over polar alternatives.
