The future development of air traffic management (ATM), set by the ATM 2000+ Strategy, involves a structural revision of ATM processes, a new ATM concept and a system approach for the ATM network. This requires ATM services to go through significant structural, operational and cultural changes that will contribute towards the ATM 2000+ Strategy. Moreover, from a technology viewpoint, future ATM services will employ new systems forming the emergent ATM architecture underlying and supporting the European Commission's Single European Sky Initiative. Introducing safety relevant systems in ATM contexts requires us to understand the risk involved in order to mitigate the impact of possible failures. This paper is concerned with some limitations of safety analysis with respect to operational aspects of introducing new systems (functionalities).

ABSTRACT: This paper reviews works and studies concerning the concept of trust. The review highlights multidisciplinary aspects of the concept of trust and its use. The Prisoners ’ Dilemma provides a characterization of trust. Trust games extend the prisoners ’ dilemma in order to overcome some of its practical limitations. Trust games allow us to study and analyze dynamics of trust. Furthermore, trust games represent those situations where cooperation (or competition) between two entities might emerge eventually. It is necessary to investigate different strategies and their interactions in order to understand trust dynamics (e.g., trust formation). We have implemented a tool, which, accordingly to learning-by-experience approaches, supports exploratory trust games. A graphical interface allows us to understand easily the results. Scenarios of use validate some functionalities of the tool. 1

Technology innovation supports further (e.g., safety or performance) improvements, although there is often a lack of trust in changes. This paper argues that organizations need to identify trust strategies and policies supporting the delivery of technology innovation. Moreover, the identification of trust strategies and policies supports the understanding of subtle interactions between diverse, often competing, system objectives. 1

A methodology that has received increasing attention in recent years is Integrated Assessment (IA). IA can loosely be defined as a multi- or interdisciplinary process of structuring various knowledge elements in such a manner that all relevant aspects of a problem are considered in their mutual coherence, for the benefit of decision-making.

"Individual file sharers stand about as much chance of being sued by Big Music as they do of being struck by lightning (…) or winning the lottery." 3- Jon Newton, p2pnet.net 1 The impacts of others on the reduction of one’s perceived risk have frequently been acknowledged within the marketing and consumer literature, yet conceptual tools to study them systematically remain undeveloped. In this ethnography of the Hotline file-sharing community, the ways in which Hotline members ’ ideological and consumption related social discourse and practice help produce and reduce certain cultural consumer risks are explored and developed. The Hotline community is particularly popular in Europe but the study’s findings also apply to any other p2p community such as Kazaa, BearShare, or LimeWire. The present study addresses three important issues to challenge our traditional views of consumer risk. First, the study defines and demonstrates the existence of collective consumer risk. While Hotline consumers participate in the cultural production of the risk of file-sharing, observations of perspective in action also reveal an effective reduction of that risk through the discursive articulation of collective risk. Hotline consumers reduce the risk of Hotline through discursively constructing collective

Atrocity presents a unique challenge both to media and to philosophy. Atrocity, not suicide, it is suggested, is the key issue for modern philosophy. Atrocity annihilates all attempts to give life meaning and destroys forever a subject’s possibility of seeking justice as well as the individual’s relation with the world. For media, concerned with assembling the contingent into socially approved meanings, atrocity remains an irreducible anomaly. The suffering of victims never really becomes news more than momentarily, while the issue never goes away from the public agenda, but remains there unresolved. The difficulties, it is suggested, come from the philosophical challenges posed. But, along with celebrity, atrocity is a major tool of modern politics, employing the same
