The Shastra WAN collaborative architecture provides a highly �exible infrastructure for sophisticated WAN based collaborative network computing. The architecture is being used to create powerful collaborative scienti�c visualization applications that can be used througout the Internet. This document presents an explanation of the architecture describing the �exibility of the system � relates the architecture to prior work on similar systems highlighting the �exibility of the architecture � and shows how this �exibility enhances the capabilities of scienti�c visualization by presenting a sample application. 1
