This paper looks at the terms “Virtual Prototyping”, “Virtual Engineering”, “Virtual Product Develop-ment ” and “Virtual Reality ” from the perspective of Design Theory and Methodology (DTM). DTM should be the base discipline for investigating, systemising and improving product development / de-sign processes, but has not yet come to a decisive viewpoint about the implications and use of the terms mentioned.
