The elaboration of separation-individuation theory in the years beyond childhood has been a psychoanalytic focus for several decades. In this paper, the nature of separation-individuation phenomena in adulthood and the terminology and controversy surrounding the use of the terms third, fourth, and fifth individuation are considered first; a detailed elabor-ation of the concept of the fifth individuation in late adulthood follows. T his is the third in a series of articles on separation-individuationtheory in adulthood. The f irst (Colarusso 1990) focused on the third individuation during young adulthood (age twenty to forty); the second (Colarusso 1997) dealt with the fourth individuation experience of middle adulthood (age forty to sixty). In this paper I will f irst consider general concepts and terminology covering the use of separation-individuation theory in adulthood; I will then proceed to a discussion of the f ifth individuation: separation-individuation experience in late adulthood (age sixty and beyond).

Abstract—We have defined two suites of metrics, which cover static and dynamic aspects of component assembly. The static metrics measure complexity and criticality of component assembly, wherein complexity is measured using Component Packing Density and Component Interaction Density metrics. Further, four criticality conditions namely, Link, Bridge, Inheritance and Size criticalities have been identified and quantified. The complexity and criticality metrics are combined to form a Triangular Metric, which can be used to classify the type and nature of applications. Dynamic metrics are collected during the runtime of a complete application. Dynamic metrics are useful to identify super-component and to evaluate the degree of utilisation of various components. In this paper both static and dynamic metrics are evaluated using Weyuker’s set of properties. The result shows that the metrics provide a valid means to measure issues in component assembly. We relate our metrics suite with McCall’s Quality Model and illustrate their impact on product quality and to the management of component-based product development.

Mathematics consists of abstract ideas. They are communicated through the use of external representations. The external representations must embody the key properties of the respective ideas. Since a particular mode of representation cannot embody an abstract idea completely, it is necessary to use more than one representation. Even mathematicians use different modes of mathematical thinking, including visual and kinetic imagery and less frequently, mental words or algebraic symbols (Hadamard, 1945). In recent years, the principle of multiple representations has attracted much attention among mathematics educators. For example, the Representation Standard of the Principles and Standards for School Mathematics (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, 2000) states that instructional programs should enable all students to “select, apply, and translate among mathematical representations to solve problems ” (p. 67). An instructional issue is how many modes of representations need to be used at various levels of mathematics instruction. Four decades ago, Bruner (1964) proposed three modes of representation, namely the enactive, iconic, and symbolic, to be introduced in that order when teaching mathematics. These three seem to be the minimum number of modes to use. Two decades later, Lesh, Post and Behr (1987) stressed that a student who “understands ” a mathematical idea “can (1) recognize the idea embedded in a variety of qualitatively different representational systems, (2) flexibly manipulate the idea within given representational systems,

Energ y transitions can have large geopolitical consequences and, vice versa, geopolitics influence transitions. In the current literature on the transition to a hydrogen econ-omy, it has only little attention. This chapter will describe an analytical framework that can be used to describe the evolution of energ y systems in the context of geopolitics. Our analytical framework uses economic geography, political geography and political economy as building blocks linked by the institutional economic approach. The pur-pose is to find patterns in habits and institutions that explain the geopolitical process accompanied by energ y transitions. This will help understanding future energ y tran-sitions and in their geopolitical context. t is claimed that an energ y transition is needed due to three world scale prob-lems concerning energ y demand, energ y supply and the environment. The spatial characteristics of the energ y supply chain will change dramatically with the pos-sibility of major geopolitical consequences. The goal of this chapter is to create an analytical framework that explains energ y transitions in a geopolitical context. Introduction. The paper deals with full-field and non-contact method to measure deformation of thin membranes, in order to characterise their behaviour in the range of large displacements. There is presented the optical method of shadow Moiré by phase shifting and its application at membranes deformation. The accuracy of the method is 0.01 mm. FEM and analytical studies have accompanied the experimental determinations to prove their reliability.
