In the last decade, some researches on the star problem in trace monoids (is the iteration of a recognizable language also recognizable?) has pointed out the interest of the finite power property to achieve partial solutions of this problem. We prove that the star problem is decidable in some trace monoid if and only if in the same monoid, it is decidable whether a recognizable language has the finite power property. Intermediary results allow us to give a shorter proof for the decidability of the two previous problems in every trace monoid without C4-submonoid. We also deal with some earlier ideas, conjectures, and questions which have been raised in the research on the star problem and the finite power property, e.g., we show the decidability of these problems for recognizable languages which contain at most one non-connected trace. This article is published as Technical Report both at the Department of Computer Science at Dresden University of Technology and at the Laboratoire de ...

Abstract: Managing the enterprise architecture (EA) is a major challenge of every larger modern enterprise. Aligning business and IT in order to optimize their interac-tion is the main goal of EA management. The first step of an EA management approach typically is to analyze and document the as-is-situation. Subsequently, the second step has to be the management of the EA evolution in order to achieve the desired target EA. Although IT projects guide this evolution by implementing the transformations from a current to an envisioned architecture, they are considered sparsely by EA approaches. Therefore, this article presents a methodology pattern (M-Pattern) describing a pro-cess including all necessary tasks and associated roles, which help to cope with the challenge of EA evolution management. 1

Dedicated to Ludwig Elsner on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday Abstract We describe canonical forms for elements of a classical Lie group of matrices under similarity transformations in the group. Matrices in the associated Lie algebra and Jordan algebra of matrices inherit related forms under these similarity transformations. In general, one cannot achieve diagonal or Schur form, but the form that can be achieved displays the eigenvalues of the matrix. We also discuss matrices in intersections of these classes and their Schur-like forms. Such multistructured matrices arise in applications from quantum physics and quantum chemistry. 1 Introduction Many problems that arise in applications have structures that give rise to eigenvalue problems for matrices that are members of a classical Lie group, its Lie
