This dissertation is dedicated to my mother, Astrid Dyett Barron and my grandmother, Florence Lovell Roane, the two greatest human influences in my life. I love them and miss them dearly. Completion of this dissertation as well as the doctoral program would not have been possible without the ongoing, everlasting, never failing support of my husband, Darrell Hanna and my children, Micah, David, Daniel and my granddaughter, Jordyn. I love you all, I thank you and I also dedicate this work to you. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS First and foremost I must give all glory and honor to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for with Him all things are possible! I thank God for the day I met my dissertation supervisor and mentor, Dr. Ruth G. McRoy. Her guidance, her support and her encouragement have been invaluable throughout this journey. I also acknowledge all of the members of my dissertation committee; Dr. Rowena Fong, Dr. A. James Schwab, Dr. Marilyn Armour and Dr. Marie-Anne Suizzo. Your words of advice and support through this process have been greatly appreciated. Thank you for your patience and your many combined hours of counsel.
Successfully Adopting IT for Social Welfare Program Management
"... In DGO 2003, we first introduced the long-standing Work First 1 project that is inter-disciplinary between social work and computer science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH) with the collaboration of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NC DHHS). Base ..."

Differential Cryptanalysis of DES-like Cryptosystems
- CRYPTO'91
, 1991
"... The Data Encryption Standard (DES) is the best known and most widely used cryptosystem for civilian applications. It was developed at IBM and adopted by the National Buraeu of Standards in the mid 70's, and has successfully withstood all the attacks published so far in the open literature. In t ..."

Example-based learning for view-based human face detection
- IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence
, 1998
"... Abstract—We present an example-based learning approach for locating vertical frontal views of human faces in complex scenes. The technique models the distribution of human face patterns by means of a few view-based “face ” and “nonface ” model clusters. At each image location, a difference feature v ..."

vector is computed between the local image pattern and the distribution-based model. A trained classifier determines, based on the difference feature vector measurements, whether or not a human face exists at the current image location. We show empirically that the distance metric we adopt
Successful Adoption of ERP Technology as Influenced by Country of Origin
"... The complexity of ERP implementation can create high profile failures. Technology transfer scholars identify a difference in culture, either organizational or national, as a potential barrier to successful implementation of any complex technology. We explore this barrier to ERP system quality and co ..."

Fundamental Design Issues for the Future Internet
- IEEE JOURNAL ON SELECTED AREAS IN COMMUNICATIONS
, 1995
"... The Internet has been a startling and dramatic success. However, multimedia applications, with their novel traffic characteristics and service requirements, pose an interesting challenge to the technical foundations of the Internet. In this paper we address some of the fundamental architectural d ..."

Ensuring The Successful Adoption Of Discrete Event Simulation In A Manufacturing Environment
"... Discrete event simulation has long been recognized as a valuable tool for manufacturers, but converting the recognition of value into an embrace of the technology can be a challenge. Like most technologies, with which an organization has little or no experience, timing and the manner in which simula ..."

A UNIFIED DEFINITION OF CRM TOWARDS THE SUCCESSFUL ADOPTION AND IMPLEMENTATION
"... Attempts to define Customer Relationship Management (CRM) have been varied and many, reflecting the diverse academic backgrounds of CRM scholars. The inexistence of a unified definition of CRM leads to undesired and unexpected outcomes from the adoption and implementation of CRM. Hence, this paper ..."

A simple cooperative diversity method based on network path selection
- IEEE J. SELECT. AREAS COMMUN
, 2006
"... Cooperative diversity has been recently proposed as a way to form virtual antenna arrays that provide dramatic gains in slow fading wireless environments. However, most of the proposed solutions require distributed space–time coding algorithms, the careful design of which is left for future investi ..."

. The success (or failure) to select the best available path depends on the statistics of the wireless channel, and a methodology to evaluate performance for any kind of wireless channel statistics, is provided. Information theoretic analysis of outage probability shows that our scheme achieves the same
