Biased assimilation and attitude polarization: The effects of prior theories on subsequently considered evidence

by Charles G. Lord, Lee Ross - Journal of Personality and Social Psychology , 1979
"... People who hold strong opinions on complex social issues are likely to examine relevant empirical evidence in a biased manner. They are apt to accept "confirming" evidence at face value while subjecting "discontinuing " evidence to critical evaluation, and as a result to draw und ..."

Methodological issues and evidence of malfeasance in research purporting to show thimerosal in vaccines is

by Brian Hooker , Janet Kern , David Geier , Boyd Haley , Lisa Sykes , Paul King , Mark Geier
"... There are over 165 studies that have focused on Thimerosal, an organic-mercury (Hg) based compound, used as a preservative in many childhood vaccines, and found it to be harmful. Of these, 16 were conducted to specifically examine the effects of Thimerosal on human infants or children with reported ..."

Analysis of an Electronic Voting System

by Tadayoshi Kohno, Adam Stubblefield, Aviel D. Rubin, Dan S. Wallach , 2003
"... Recent election problems have sparked great interest in managing the election process through the use of electronic voting systems. While computer scientists, for the most part, have been warning of the perils of such action, vendors have forged ahead with their products, claiming increased security ..."

For these new computerized voting systems, neither source code nor the results of any third-party certification analyses have been available for the general population to study

The Critical Role of the Rate of Ethanol Absorption in the Interpretation of Studies Purporting to Demonstrate Gastric Metabolism of Ethanol

The area under blood ethanol concentration-time curves may be lower after ingestion vs. intravenous infusion of similar ethanol doses, a difference that has been attributed to first-pass metab-olism in the gasthc mucosa. Using a model of human hepac ethanol metabolism, we predted the area under tood ethanol concentration-time curves and first-pass metabolism that would result from oral vs. Intravenous ethanol. This model accurately predicted reported differences in AUC after oral vs. intravenous ethanol. First-pass metabolism has been shown to disappear when the stomach is bypassed via intraduodenal or portal vein infusion of ethanol. Our model predts that the effidency of first-pass metabolism is extremely sensitive to the hepatic delivery rate of ethanol and the rapid ethanol delivery rate in bypass studs would have elimk’iated hepatic first-pass metabolism. We conclude that hepatic ethanol metabolism could explain pub-

by Borja Holgado, Fabio Marco, Dalla Vecchia, Josep Fortuny, Federico Bernardini, Claudio Tuniz
"... A small accumulation of bones from the Norian (Upper Triassic) of the Seazza Brook Valley (Carnic Prealps, Northern Italy) was originally (1989) identified as a gastric pellet made of pterosaur skeletal elements. The specimen has been reported in literature as one of the very few cases of gastric ej ..."
