Evolving Neural Networks through Augmenting Topologies
 Evolutionary Computation
"... An important question in neuroevolution is how to gain an advantage from evolving neural network topologies along with weights. We present a method, NeuroEvolution of Augmenting Topologies (NEAT), which outperforms the best fixedtopology method on a challenging benchmark reinforcement learning task ..."

Topology Control of Multihop Wireless Networks using Transmit Power Adjustment
, 2000
"... We consider the problem of adjusting the transmit powers of nodes in a multihop wireless network (also called an ad hoc network) to create a desired topology. We formulate it as a constrained optimization problem with two constraints connectivity and biconnectivity, and one optimization objective ..."

This paper discusses the design andperformance of a hierarchical proxycache designed to make Internet information systems scale better. The design was motivated by our earlier tracedriven simulation study of Internet traffic. We believe that the conventional wisdom, that the benefits of hierarchical file caching do not merit the costs, warrants reconsideration in the Internet environment. The cache implementation supports a highly concurrent stream of requests. We present performance measurements that show that the cache outperforms other popular Internet cache implementations by an order of magnitude under concurrent load. These measurements indicate that hierarchy does not measurably increase access latency. Our software can also be configured as a Webserver accelerator; we present data that our httpdaccelerator is ten times faster than Netscape's Netsite and NCSA 1.4 servers. Finally, we relate our experience fitting the cache into the increasingly complex and operational world of Internet information systems, including issues related to security, transparency to cacheunaware clients, and the role of file systems in support of ubiquitous widearea information systems.
Using spin images for efficient object recognition in cluttered 3D scenes
IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence
, 1999
"... We present a 3D shapebased object recognition system for simultaneous recognition of multiple objects in scenes containing clutter and occlusion. Recognition is based on matching surfaces by matching points using the spinimage representation. The spinimage is a data level shape descriptor that i ..."

Interactive Graph Cuts for Optimal Boundary & Region Segmentation of Objects in ND Images
, 2001
"... In this paper we describe a new technique for general purpose interactive segmentation of Ndimensional images. The user marks certain pixels as “object” or “background” to provide hard constraints for segmentation. Additional soft constraints incorporate both boundary and region information. Graph ..."

Chain Homotopies for Object Topological Representations
, 2008
"... This paper presents a set of tools to compute topological information of simplicial complexes, tools that are applicable to extract topological information from digital pictures. A simplicial complex is encoded in a (nonunique) algebraictopological format called AMmodel. An AMmodel for a given o ..."
