The femur length is modelled to be linear in the logarithm of the gestational age in days. The random coe cient regression parameter estimates in the second column are from using the generalized least squares estimation and the third column from using maximum likelihood estimates using the EM algorithm, see A.2. The location parameters are denoted with a subindex for SGA or non-SGA births and for site (T=Trondheim, B=Bergen and U=Uppsala). The variance is denoted 2 and the covariance matrix of the location parameters . The ratio of the loglikelihoods inserted the two sets of parameter estimates show a that the di erence in the sets of parameter estimates is small.
