Rational expectations analysis has received increasing attention from econ-omists in recent years. Some of this attention has been evident in papers published in the first volume of this journal, and at recent control con-ferences sponsored by the Society of Economic Dynamics and Control. That rational expectations analysis has become a frequent topic of research among those interested in the application of methods of dynamic analysis and control to economic problems is natural, in the sense that rational expec-tations analysis depends heavily on such methods. This issue of the JEDC is devoted entirely to rational expectations research with an emphasis on general methodological considerations and policy implications. The idea for such a collection originated with David Kendrick who suggested that it might help to clarify some of the more controversial issues in the field, as well as to indicate which areas are most likely to require additional research. The selection of papers for this issue has reflected these general aims, as discussed below.

resistance strain gauge measurement of stresses of two standard flange rings, with the results of a pro-gramme of investigation, projected by the Committee in being when the Second Report was made, into the elastic and plastic (creep relaxation) behaviour of flanges, drilled and undrilled, by means of model flanges, and of certain bolt materials. Execution and completion of the programme and attention to its results, was interrupted and delayed by the 193945 war. Subsequently examination of the creep relaxation data showed that the phenomenon, and the interpretation of the results, involved difficulties unknown at the time the tests were made, and the need for further investigation became evident. The results, however, have impor-tant bearing upon the behaviour of flanged joints and also as a contribution to the subject providing a base for further advances. An Addendum to the Report refers to matters which arise in comexion with utilization of its results for engineering needs. The Committee wishes to record its indebtedness to the Reporter, Dr. A. E. Johnson, now of

Geographic information systems date from the 1960s, when computers were mostly seen as devices for massive computation. Very significant technical problems had to be solved in those early days: how did one convert the contents of a paper map to digital form (by building an optical scanner from scratch); how did one store the result on magnetic tape (in the form of a linear sequence of records representing the geometry of each boundary line as sequences of vertices); and how did one compute the areas of patches (using an elegant algorithm involving trapezia). Most of the early research was about algorithms, data structures, and indexing schemes, and thus had strong links to emerging research agendas in computer science. Over the years, however, the research agenda of GIS expanded away from computer science. Many of the technical problems of computation were solved, and attention shifted to issues of data quality and uncertainty; the cognitive principles of user interface design; the costs and benefits of GIS; and the social impacts of the technology. Academic computer scientists interested in GIS wondered if their research would be regarded by their colleagues as peripheral – a marginally interesting application-- threatening their

This process has been very interesting for me. I want to thank my supervisor Timo Malin and other Coaches of Business Factory & Business Road for their help in making this research possible and accepting me to study at Business Factory since 2006. I also want to thank my parents for their support and my friends for making me feel like home in Vaasa during my studies. Without all of you this would not been possible. Especially I want to thank Osman Nalbantoglu for his inspiring guidance and motivation in my entrepreneurship career.
