Impulses and Physiological States in Theoretical Models of Nerve Membrane
 Biophysical Journal
, 1961
"... ABSTRACT Van der Pol's equation for a relaxation oscillator is generalized by the addition of terms to produce a pair of nonlinear differential equations with either a stable singular point or a limit cycle. The resulting "BVP model " has two variables of state, representing excitabi ..."

the 4dimensional HH phase space onto a plane produces a similar diagram which shows the underlying relationship between the two models. Impulse trains occur in the BVP and HH models for a range of constant applied currents which make the singular point representing the resting state unstable.

Coil sensitivity encoding for fast MRI. In:
Proceedings of the ISMRM 6th Annual Meeting,
, 1998
"... New theoretical and practical concepts are presented for considerably enhancing the performance of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) by means of arrays of multiple receiver coils. Sensitivity encoding (SENSE) is based on the fact that receiver sensitivity generally has an encoding effect complementa ..."

, samples of distinct information content can be obtained at one time by using distinct receivers in parallel (2), implying the possibility of reducing scan time in Fourier imaging without having to travel faster in kspace. In 1988 Hutchinson and Raff (3) suggested dispensing entirely with phase encoding

This work attempts to provide an overview of liuguistic diversity in South Asia and to place this diversity in a cultural context. The work tries to describe the current state of knowledge concerning socially conditioned language variation in the subcontinent. Each of five major language families contains numerous mutually intelligible and unintelligible dialects. Different dialects of a language may be required for 'written and spoken use and for different social groups. Bilingualism and multilingualism are common for communication between groups. Language choice is important for education, politics, radio and television. Chapter 2 of this book enumerates criteria used in the taxonomy of language forms, discussing a number of theories of dialect formation from the points of view of linguistic innovation and diffusion of linguistic change. Chapter 3 surveys literature on classification of South Asian
