"... ABSTRACT This article aims at proposing some elements for a grounded theor y of the network society. The network society is the social structure characteristic of the Information Age, as tentatively identi ed by empirical, cross-cultural investigation. It permeates most societies in the world, in v ..."

9Investing in People: Launching Supported Employment on a Crowded Public Agenda (Part 1)

by Jean K. Elder
"... When historians look back on American politics of the 1980s, they will be tempted to see the "Reagan Era " as a distinctive movement in American government. I am hopeful that there will be a general mention of the significant policy issues addressed in the disability area, and specifically ..."

Reciprocals in Yélî Dnye, the Papuan language of Rossel Island

by Stephen C. Levinson
"... Yélî Dnye has two discernable dedicated constructions for reciprocal marking. The first and main construction uses a dedicated reciprocal pronoun numo, somewhat like English each other. We can recognise two subconstructions. First, the ‘numo-construction’, where the reciprocal pronoun is a patient o ..."

Abstract: Online learning initia-tives over the past decade have become increasingly comprehen-sive in their selection of courses and sophisticated in their presen-tation, culminating in the recent announcement of a number of consortium and startup activities that promise to make a university education on the internet, free of charge, a real possibility. At this pivotal moment it is appropriate to explore the potential for obtaining comprehensive bioinformatics training with currently existing free video resources. This article pre-sents such a bioinformatics curric-ulum in the form of a virtual course catalog, together with editorial commentary, and an assessment of strengths, weaknesses, and likely future directions for open online learning in this field. Online Learning Comes of Age Online academic ‘‘courseware’ ’ at the university level has now been available to the public for a decade, the earliest concerted effort having originated in 2002 with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and their OpenCour-seWare initiative

Summary: This paper presents the model of Intelligence Information System (IIS) based on a Service-Oriented Architecture. In this paper we propose the new service’s model, based on the Intelligence cycle and other systems which are necessary for gathering intelligence information and data. The paper is mostly focused on the system architecture and services design as a mainstream for definition of the services. Furthermore, additional attention is dedicated on the Distributed System Reliability (DSR).
