Self-determination and persistence in a real-life setting: Toward a motivational model of high school dropout.

by Robert J Vallerand , Michelle S Fbrtier , Frederic Guay - Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, , 1997
"... The purpose of this study was to propose and test a motivational model of high school dropout. The model posits that teachers, parents, and the school administration's behaviors toward students influence students' perceptions of competence and autonomy. The less autonomy supportive the so ..."

"... Abstract Many financial markets are characterized by strong relationships and networks, rather than arm's-length, spot-market transactions. We examine the performance consequences of this organizational choice in the context of relationships established when VCs syndicate portfolio company inv ..."

Eventually, successful portfolio companies are taken public or sold. Absent return data, we follow Gompers and Lerner (1998

Focusing on the reduction of entry and operational costs, we investigate a new dynamic resource provisioning method for MMOG operation using external data centres as low-cost resource providers. ii iv vTo my parents vi vii Acknowledgements I would first and foremost extend my whole-hearted gratitude to my advisors, An-drea Arpaci-Dusseau and Remzi Arpaci-Dusseau. Andrea and Remzi are the reason that I had the opportunity for this exceptional Ph.D. journey. To this day, I still re-member the moment when they took me as their student and the joy and hope in my heart. Andrea and Remzi have showed me what systems research is like and how much fun and challenging it can be. Before this journey with them, I had always liked and believed in the beauty of mathematics and theory. My initial interest in systems research happened when I took Remzi’s Advanced Operating Systems

Flow visualization;Ogive cylinder body; Angle of attack;Subsonic flow;Transonic flow;Vortex pattern; Water tunnel Abstractc he present work gives the results of flow visualization studies and six ompone1 force measurements on an ogive cylinder body at high angles of attack in the sub-: and transonic flow regime. High angle of attack aerodynamic investigations had not been done before at the VKI, so a new wind tunnel model support system, six component force balance ana water tunnel contraction and test section were desig-ned and constructed to enable the present investigation to be performed. Force measurements and flow visualization studies were carried out on both a sharp ncse body and a blunt nosed body of (k/d)ToT=18 and 17.4, respectively. The side force induced by the asymmetric vortex pattern which develops on the leeward side of an ogive cylinder was the primary focus of this investigation. A detailed review of previous investigations was performed. The results obtained in>. is investigation were found to agree quite well with previous results. EThe flow visualization studies were carried out in the VKI WT-1 water tunnel and I
